Missionaries have always fascinated me. When missionaries came to our church, some people expected another boring talk, but I sat with rapt attention to every word they spoke. I was not really living for God in those days, but something in me was drawn to missionaries. Years later, Danny and I went to a meeting at the home of some friends and a missionary, who spent most of her life in Hong Kong, quietly told about her work. I was totally engrossed, and later asked her so many questions that it embarrassed people. Why was this? It cannot be explained apart from God. He has been tugging at my heart for a long time. In 1998 and 2000, we went to India on short mission trips with teams of people from Rhema Bible Training Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. We were in Nagpur in central India, helping Pastor N. Y. Thorat and his wife Lata. They pastor a church there and are the directors of Rhema India, a Bible school for training people for the ministry. God put India in both of our hearts while we were there and we hope to return soon - but it will be in God's timing. Whether you feel called to missions work or not, you would definitely benefit from a short term missions trip. It will change your life - forever change how you look at the world, how you look at other people, and how you look at yourself. God has a good plan for your life. -- Nancye Ricketts |
